Safely Teaching Science in a Covid-19 Environment
What are schools going to look like when they re-open for Science teachers and students this fall? Should teachers factor in extra time for sanitizing their lab equipment? And what’s the best way to model safe practices in science classrooms in a Covid-19 environment?
With the 2020-2021 school year promising to be like no other, many questions are being asked about the unique safety challenges science teachers face as they begin to reopen their labs. To help address these concerns, OSIP.ca safety partner STAO (Science Teachers’ Association of Ontario) and science education product supplier Flinn Scientific recently produced a “must see” webinar, “How to Teach Science in a Covid-19 Environment in various Instructional Models in Canada.”
Although any teacher will find the content useful, the webinar’s focus on Science-specific topics (beginning at 51:30) will be especially important to Science and Technology educators.
Topics covered include:
- What schools will look like when they re-open for Science Teachers and students
- COVID-19 School Safety Guide
- Suggestions for PPE usage in Science labs
- Recommendations to sanitize Science equipment and apparatus
