OPHEA updates Physical Activity Safety Standards

OPHEA (Ontario Physical and Health Education Association) has released a downloadable summary document of the 2019-2020 revisions to the Ontario Physical Activity Safety Standards in Education.

Ontario Physical Activity Safety Standards in EducationKnown as OPASSE, these safety standards are intended for curricular programs, intramural activities, and interschool athletics. Activities covered in the document include Climbing, Fencing, Football, Hockey, and Outdoor Education (e.g., swimming and canoeing).

OPHEA notes in the document that this 12-page resource should be considered a summary of changes to OPASSE for the 2019-2020 school year, and is “not an exhaustive summary of all changes and is not to replace reviewing all information related to the activity prior to commencing an activity.”

The OPASSE summary document for 2019-2020 can be downloaded here.

More information is available in the OSIP members’ area, or by visiting the OPHEA website.

About This Online Resource

An area of need identified by board staff with responsibility for student injury prevention is the ability to share best practices and information, ask questions, and access links to provincial student injury prevention partners.

As part of SIPI Phase Three, this online interactive resource includes both public and members-only areas. The members-only area allows boards to share resources, ask questions, and connect with fellow colleagues as they further develop student injury prevention plans and resources.
